Can You Be a Gay or Lesbian Christian?
Of course you can! Gays and lesbians all over the US consider themselves to be Christian.
For many it’s the way you grew up and it’s a way of being that still seems right. Your faith is part of your identity and you don’t feel a need to separate from it. That’s great.
I Couldn’t Be A Christian Lesbian
Others left Christianity behind because they needed to step away from it in order to feel able to embrace being gay or lesbian.
That was my path. I left my Christianity behind in order to feel that I could fully step into being lesbian. It was what I needed to do to feel the freedom to step into my true self as lesbian. I put God in a box on a shelf. That box only recently came down as I came to a new sense of who God is for me in the last year, and to be honest it’s not old school Christianity anymore. But that’s me, let’s talk about you!
Many Gays and Lesbians Still Identify As Christian And Want To Date Christians
Now if you’re someone who is gay or lesbian and still identifies as being Christian, you’re in luck because online dating is a great way to find other gay and lesbian Christians who are looking for love and a solid relationship.
For many Christians, it’s very important to find another believer; someone who not only identifies as Christian but lives their life actively involved in their church and serving their spiritual community.
You might want to find someone who is born again or Catholic or Methodist or a Unitarian. There are so many approaches to Christianity, that we can’t assume anymore that it means you’re a closeted Baptist or faking it Holy Roller. Many Christian Churches now embrace their gay and lesbian members and openly support LGBT community in their congregations.
The world is changing and churches are changing with it. Not only do we have equal rights to work, live and marry in many states but we also can openly participate in Christian churches and community across the country as well.
And we are all waiting for the Supreme Court’s ruling with baited breathe. Hopefully we’ll learn that our entire nation will soon have the right to marry wherever they live in our 50 states.
As I watched the Denver Pride Parade this past weekend, I was amazed to see at least 20 church groups marching in support of LGBT Pride. Every kind of church it seemed was there; from Baptist to Episcopal, to Jewish and Presbyterians of course! It was amazing as they just kept coming in that 2-hour parade.
