Gay is Good

by Mary on June 4, 2012

Gay is good. Right? You know that.

Gay is great! You know that too, right?

And finally, gay is a gift from God.

June is PRIDE month.

(And I’m open to the idea of God being whatever you feel OK about.)

We are in the final big push to launch the Live Your Best Lesbian Life Summit. So today I’m going to share a video I found recently on Pinterest on someone’s board. It’s fabulous and wonderful. And it’s a great way to remind yourself that not only is gay good, but it’s a gift.

Live Your Best Life Today!

Get out there. Smile. Jump up and down. Be glad for who you are.

Take a minute and tell me what you think of this video. I loved it and at the same time it blew my mind. I thought finally someone with one of those funny collars on is telling the TRUTH! What did you think? Leave a comment, I really want to know.

Mary,
Wow! I am amazed by this video! Thank you for sharing this. It really makes me feel more confident and grounded in being who I am and not fearing what anyone thinks about me and my choices. I am really embracing the person inside and finally living an authentically and genuine life. These last 2 years have been the most spiritual for me too. I have been meditating and thinking about my path in life. Now that I have a little boy, my life has changed forever! I have a deeper understanding about what love is and how to be living from a spiritual space. Being single for some time now teaches me to understand who I am first, develop a relationship with myself and not always looking for someone to rescue me. These are patterns I am breaking and its exciting! There is nothing to rescue and there is nothing to fix. I am fine today and tomorrow! Looking forward to each day with amazement and inspiration!

Love Sophie Navarro :) xoxo

Mary. You never disappoint! As always I have something to say. What I heard in the video clip is that spirituality is living a fully alive, generous, vibrant, connected to love, peace, and wisdom life. Our purpose in living in God’s will is greater than all of the earthly gods we succumb to such as careers, materialism (having to own 2 cars and a boat, a bigger home, etc.) God will approve our grand design for our life on this earth if we keep our goals God centered and focused and live and practice spirituality. The grand design simply put, is living who we are.

This is a new paradigm for traditional Christian’s to think about and conclude that spirituality IS the image of God…we are just as he is and he has made us. Gay or not, we are made in his image. This means that the traditional thought that “true Christians” have a direct line to God and he is telling them that heterosexuality is the ONLY way….is a faulty assumption of who God is and how he made us…in HIS image.

This paradigm clarifies God is inclusive and we are visible in his eyes and homosexuals no longer can be isolated and forced to live in the fringes of spiritual and intellectual thought and practices. We are not “deviants.” Living a same sex lifestyle is not a sub culture; it is another expression of God. This means we have a RIGHT to exist. We have a right to own, be part of, and be the same as any other person on this earth. We are not strange or odd! Gays and lesbians do the same daily functions as any other person. For example, we use the bathroom, we shower and/or take baths, we all eat food and drink liquids, we sleep, we wear clothes, etc. The “same as” list can go on forever. Believe it or not, we have more in common with each other than there are differences. In my mind the only difference is that either we a a man or a woman. That’s it.

It is only when we focus on earthly goals that our differences become the central issues. These issues are states allowing social and economic classes, states allowing homophobia, allowing state’s rights to supersede individual rights, and so on. I have a God who is “telling” me, I and others whether gay or straight, are created in his image…the image of spirituality and if I make God my central focus for living, then every thing else is ok. I would think that the politicians in all 50 states would love to have me live in their state. I would be one of those law abiding married lesbian couples who are gainfully employed, paying their taxes, who keep the economy stable, raising their children with values, educated, home owners, wouldn’t dream of committing a crime, and really caring about the poor. Doesn’t that sound like perfect citizens that the politicians would want living next door? They would never have to lock their doors! Imagine that! Have a blessed day.

Hi Mary,
I fought this battle in my mind when I was younger. I thought that God or our creator would condemn me for being gay, but I slowly started to realize that I am made in his image. He created me and loves me for who I am. If I can love him so much, how on earth can he not love me? How can a God who is so loving, condemn me? If I so love my children with all my heart, how much more does God love me and all of us for that matter? Whether we are straight or gay He loves us with all of his heart and I sincerely believe that with all of my heart. Thank you for posting that video.

Mary. Not too long ago I was listening to a news story on NPR. The news was about how the elderly lesbian, gays, and transgendered (LGT) folks face discrimination in Spain. Elderly LGT folks are not allowed to access nursing home care. This denial of services is NOT an issue of Spain lacking the infrastructure for caring for their elderly; it is an issue of the “beliefs” of conservatives and church people denying LGT folks access to nursing homes. In fact, in Spain’s last presidential election, people in Spain voted for this guy because he promised to continue the same course of discrimination towards lesbians, gays, and transgendered people that has been going on since day one. The discrimination is so bad that some LGT’s have syringe”s filled with poison to commit suicide when they can no longer take care of themselves. Can you imagine being an elderly lesbian in Spain and having rheumatoid arthritis and have to kill yourself because you can’t pick up a spoon to feed yourself and are at risk of starvation, or you are laying in your urine and feces because you can’t move to go to the bathroom, or laying in your bed with horrific bedsores. Who are these people who are allowed to dictate social policies to the politicians? The law makers are supposed to develop public policies that effect everyone’s well being. Everyone. Law makers are not to be the judge and jury of sexual orientation. I can guarantee you they probably had one mandatory teeny weeny course in college about sexuality. I can also guarantee you they had extensive courses on polling which is a fancy way of saying that politicians make public policies based on the whims of people. Developing social policies is supposed in include EVERYONE. In Spain only heterosexuals even if they are crooks, social deviants, and just bad, antisocial people, have access to nursing home care. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!!! At the very core of plain and simple humanity, discriminatory social policies are wrong and people who support these types of policies should be concerned about hell. Have a blessed day.
